The S’Cool Bus is a Hot Wheels casting which debuted in the 1971 Heavyweights series. It is based on the popular Monogram model kit.

Underneath its opening body, it featured an orange engine scoop and a black roll-cage.

When I first saw this cool looking S’cool Bus with an opening body, I was hooked as I had never seen anything like this before and I like the style of the School bus as well. I actually was not aware at that time that this was called a Funny Car based on the Tom Daniel design for the model kit while the Hot Wheels version was designed by Larry Wood.

It comes with a sheet of stickers which I applied on it and once everything was done I just don’t have the heart to throw it away so it ended up on the blister package as seen on the first picture.

Not to forget it comes with a plastic collector button as well.

Then after 23 years it was retooled and released in 1994. During that time I wasn’t into serious collecting and was not aware nor cared for variants. Then when I finally started coming back to the hobby, I wanted to get the busses again when they were rereleased in 2006.

Released in the Super Chromes series, it was fun to collect chrome models at that time since Hot Wheels still uses die cast instead of plastic for their chrome.

And a black color was released for their Flying Customs series. These of course did not come with the collector button anymore just like the black wall era.
