Welcome to Hot Sixty 4th in which I show off my DLM 1/64 and smaller and sometimes larger collections. On my 209th post is what I called the Dynamic Duo Rally cars that won the East African Rally back in the 70's
The legendary East African Safari Classic Rally is a nine-day rally covering up to 5,000 kilometers through Kenya and Tanzania.
The Datsun Bluebird (510 in the states) 1600SSS won the 18th East-African Safari Rally in all the categories of Overall/Class/Team in 1970. This is the historic first win as a Japanese car and an accomplishment of Nissan since its first challenge to this rally in 1963.
On the other hand the Safari Rally Z, a rally-prepped Fairlady Z (known as the 240Z in the States) won the 1971 and 1973 East African Safari Rallies.
I am so happy that Greenlight was able to release the Safari Rally Z which is a great companion piece to my previously purchased Datsun Bluebird by Tomica. I must say however that the Greenlight Rally Z seems a bit off in its proportion.
If you notice the picture on the box which I believe is based on the real car, the model is missing the Shell logo on the Tomica Datsun Bluebird while the Greenlight model has the Shell logo on it. My guess is it could be a licensing issue between Tomica and Shell.
While the Greenlight Z comes in clamshell, the Tomica Bluebird comes not only in a box set with the regular box inside but has separate accessories which you can attached to the car yourself.
The art cover on the box is based on the Japanese magazine Nostalgic Hero.
