Had a chance to put a kit together that my father gave me a while back. It’s the first die cast kit I’ve done but it’s no different to putting a car back together that you’ve dismantled. The casting is pretty nice with good details although the hood is a bit bulbous from some angles. I gave it a test fit out the box and it just sat way too high, so I fixed it. It’s only a tiny basic mod but it makes a world of difference I think. I’ve taken a few photos that I’ll caption if needed.
Looks like it’s just come from the painters.
Nice thick casting, if that’s a good thing?
The plastic bits.
Test fit to see how it sits. Test failed; it’s way too high.
I’ll file the axle housings to a more acceptable depth. It looks like the designers expected this to occur, if you look at the axle housing closest to the camera on the right you may notice the plastic is a bit thinner in line with the housing.
I started with the front. First test; failed, too high still.
Second test; failed, still not good.
Third test; possible pass, depending on rear results.
THATS IT!, Muffler just clears the deck, perfect.
Some early test shots.
You can see how much the slots were elongated, front more than the rear.
Happy Bug
It almost looks drivable.
I took just a little more out to get it as low as I could without the tyres rubbing.
1980’s jacked up rear style.
And stock height.....nup......no.
