Hot Wheels Porsche 928 (P-928)

Another old one from the cabinet. This is a nice casting for a HW IMHO. The body appears stock with some sharp details. It was released in 1982 and I believe this is from the original run. I did a little bit of research into the gold wheels as they seem unusual. They are known as GHO wheels, short for Gold Hot Ones! I like it. The GHOs where introduced in 1980 and are still in use today according to info in the link below. I’m not sure what was used in the process for these gold rims but they have held up very well, especially when the rest of the cars condition is taken into account.

The windows appear to be solid black but they are just very dark and in a couple of photos you can see through the rear window to the base. In saying that it appears there is no interior which makes sense as it can’t be seen anyway.

Introduced in 1978 and staying in production for 18 years until 1995. It was the first production V8 for Porsche and was front mounted with a trans/axle in the rear giving great weight distribution. It was intended to replace the 911 but we all know how that worked out. The body was pretty much unchanged throughout it’s production life with only minor updates, mainly in bolt on trims. The 928 was the first car I remember seeing that had its bumpers flush with the body and not really visible as a separate part. When I see them driving now they still look good even 37 years later, the shape has aged very well, something Porsche seem very good at pulling off(back then at least). While I’ve never really wanted to own a 928, I appreciate its engineering and the body shape of course. The Wikipedia page has a lot of interesting information on the 928 so check out the link.

There has been an attack by a vandal on this car. The perpetrator was last seen throwing a red crayon away while running down the hall. I know where he lives so I’ll sort that out later.

Rear wiper is nicely done. Taillights look good in shape at least as there is no tampo on those, they are red I suppose so it’s not all bad.

Pop up headlights are part of the base which I like. Looks like they are ready to deploy.
