As requested by Jobjoris I have included further progress shots, bear in mind the finished article is still in the atmosphere.

I started with making as much road as I could with the sandpaper I have here. Then traced and cut some 5mm thick plastic to raise the road base from the main board, this is to make things like the drains and off camber gravel road edge more life like, when I get to that stage.

Here I’ve attached the road base board to the main board and raised it at the end of the straight about 25mm high so it’s not just a flat road. The white globby stuff is Poly-Filler that sets fairly quickly and sands like aerated blackboard chalk once set. It can’t go on too thick so I have to build it up in layers over time. It’s used for repairs to plaster sheets or dry wall.

Those black lines ARE NOT joins in the sandpaper OK! It’s expansion joints in the Bitumen alright? Ok then.

This is how I trimmed the masking tape down for the ‘painted’ lines

All road markings done! Car park also doubles as a side road when the shot is taken from the right angle as in the lead pic.

My plan is to do what most seem to do and leave all side open and arrange the scenery behind for different shots.

Without any time taken into account so far this would have cost less than $3 in sandpaper and masking tape. The other materials are just off-cuts sitting around so no purchase cost for those.
