Welly 356B 1:64

‘B’ for B grade. Ok this is a $1AUD cast but I’m still going to point out its flaws. Mainly because I like this car and it deserves better but also because this is in a series where the rest of the casts are all very well done, this one is really at the standard I’d expect for a $1 toy. The others are as good as HW in most areas if not better. The wheels let them down a little but too badly.

This car was culled from an iHEWP with shop-teacher, he’s receiving an undisclosed amount of random Welly 1:64 (ish) casts. I was trying to get as many as I could up to the weight limit for the cheapest international postage to the USA($14) After some emails back and forth I was given the go ahead to trim the cards to the minimum in an effort to save weight and squeeze the max casts in the parcel. Once at the post office the parcel was weighed and it was over by about 40 grams with the box. I’d hoped the box would be lighter as I’d managed to get a full range of casts and once the cards were trimmed the weight was below the .5 kg mark.

Just on a related note, the amount of casts I had without doubles once on the kitchen scales at home revealed a spooky coincidence. Keep in mind each cast is a different weight and it’s a random selection. You have to trust me that this isn’t a set up, it’s not. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the readout! The stack of casts in the cards are exactly the same weight as the postal limit of .5kgs! I was amazed then that quickly turned to how the heck can I get them all in? Turns out I couldn’t but I think I made the right choice with kicking this cast out of the package.

Ok I’ll point out the flaws I’ve noticed along the way. It’s not all that evident in this shot and the one below but the windscreen isn’t sitting exactly right, it’s sunk down a little bit but it’s noticeable more in the flesh.

The edges of the cast in general are just a little rough in places and has visible mold lines along the guards.

It’s got some good points as well like the nice tampos. The gold PORSCHE script on the front and rear are there and look OK.

The two shots above show how the wheel arches differ from side to side. The top photo is the way it sits in the pack so I could see the horrible job on the arches. The bottom shot isn’t too bad but still not accurate. This is the same on all of them so not much can be done about it.

The front and rear track are different widths as per the 1:1, this is the same on the 2CV. It’s not all bad.
