HWEP HWEP HOORAY!

My 3rd HWEP parcel arrived yesterday, well actually on Wednesday but I got to the post office yesterday. In some comments recently I mentioned that I was needing a 918 Spyder to complete my Porsche series and Aussie Al let me know he had one available for trade and he would send it down to me. He asked if there was anything else I was looking for so I asked if he had any of the ‘Kenmeri’ Skyline 2000GT-R, he did! Woohoo! Before I knew it he put some other casts together and shipped it down.

Holy ‘I wasn’t expecting that’ Batman! What a selection of casts, and a surprise Tomica Mitsubishi Triton! This is the first new Tomica cast I’ve had in my hands for about 30 years!! The style is so familiar, they have this feel to them that’s hard for me to put in writing but it’s still recognisable after all that time.

So I think this is how it works, you start out with one or two HW/MBX cast every now and then, you know, keep it to the weekends. Next thing you know your in the shop just for milk during the week but find yourself in the toy aisle rumadging through the casts, looking for that one special cast. Fast forward a few months and one or two casts isn’t enough any more, you need 5 or 10 or more in one HAWL. Then once HW/MBX is becoming a bore you move on to the high end designer casts, where does it end? 1:1 collecting? My god what have I become, someone warned me this could happen when I joined up here but I didn’t listen, thought I could handle it. I was wrong. In short I fear I could end up buying Tomica or other expensive casts online, I shall resist for as long as I can.

Now where was I? Oh yeah, Tomica, I can see what all the fuss is about, awesome casting but I don’t understand why a company can make such a cool product and not sell it in as many places around the world as possible. Strange that you could get these as easily as HW/MBX years ago but now they are extinct in the wild locally. Shame.

I had to DLM both of these instantly. The Triton comes in a bag inside the box. Oh, did you notice the Triton is a UTE!!? I did. If you saw today’s Friday Film post you may have noticed these two each made a brief appearance in it.

I initially thought the Triton was a cop or security car but it’s a road service car. It came in very handy in the stop motion after the tyre delivery didn’t go to well.

It’s a whole package kind of thing I guess, if these came on cards in blister packs I don’t think it would be as special. Bring back the box! Especially you MatchBOX

Datsun 240Z. Funny thing is a white one will be going up to Aussie Al soon and I was going to send him one of the black ones!

And a couple of Corolla AE-86 hatchbacks. After sending the parcel Aussie Al noticed I had one already so I mentioned one will probably go up for trade at some point and he’s fine with that.

Couple of screen grabs from the clip. The Triton in action screaming around a bend to get to the road hazard.

And the Skyline just cruising.

So thanks Aussie Al, I already have two kids and we are pretty attached to them now so I can’t pleadge my first born to you. I’m not sure how I’ll match the parcel but I’ll give it a try.
