This is an awesome cast of a legendary vehicle. Well done Matchbox, it’s near perfect. My parents bought one of these new in the early seventies and it’s one of my first memories of a family car. I plan on painting one of these casts to match the colour that ours was, the creamy beigey, off whitey, wonderfully bland colour of awesomeness that is a Land Cruiser. For now I’ve just strategically removed some paint.
I used some old paint stripper left over from a house renovation a few years ago. The tin can is rusty and close to splitting so I may as well use it up. The stuff is pretty violent in the way it works and will strip the paint from a pop culture cast (strongest paint I’ve found so far) in under half an hour.
For this cast I wanted to try and leave the white paint on the roof intact so I didn’t have to repaint it later. I applied the paint stripper carefully with a small brush and waited ten minutes before holding it under a tap to remove the stripper residue and paint.
Once done I added some paint in just the right places to try and make it look better. I think I got it in just the right places. I’ll probably paint the bare metal in the biege colour mentioned earlier or maybe leave this as is and do another one sometime in the future.
Ok, time for some ORAT shots, only the ‘Off Road’ is on a 1:1 1979 Land Cruiser UTE!! Hope you like the shots.
