Thinking about it...

So this is just an idea at the moment but I think I’ve turned disappointment into an opportunity. First problem I have is with some 25 year old casts I’ve had from new, problem is not all of them look new anymore. The diecast rot or whatever it’s called is starting to affect them, that or the paint is starting to craze or something. Anyway I’ve been a little down as they are nice models and were expensive when new so seeing them deteriorate is a little sad.

Second problem I have is now I’ve started to get into customs I’m left with odd sized wheels and other parts. Some rear wheels on HW are known for their ‘bigness’ and don’t suit a lot of my customs so far. I finally have worked out to put two and two together and thought about fitting the RR’s to some of these larger 1:43 scale Beetles. The ones with imperfections will be well suited to recieving some ‘patina’ effects and some nice shiny wheels. Preliminary tests are positive and it seems I should be able to do this one at least with no destruction to the Bettle, that means if it fails I can put it back no problems, win win!

Unfortunately the stock wheel center will be gone but it will be replaced with something shiny and round.

Although this kind of looks cool the offset issues will be corrected. I was just checking the tyre size would work, it’s so close to the original tyres outside diameter it’s hard to measure! Very happy.

Original style, you can see the patina starting to form on the front guard. I’m ok with it now.
