LaLD Car Week: 'Murica Monday

Here’s my entry for today's LaLD car week. A 1957 Chevrolet 3100 in 1:43 scale. Its from the ‘Models Of Yesteryear’ and is made by Matchbox. It’s a pretty nicely detailed model and the finish is very well done. I picked it up earlier this year from an antique shop for $30 (AUD), probably paid top dollar or more but I really liked it and didn’t want to spend time looking for another, plus I could see this one was in good condition. I’m very happy to have it.

Features I like are the rubber tyres on metal rims, the tampos and how well they have been done, the subject matter of the piece as well. Also really like the way the timber ‘hungry boards’ have been so faithfully recreated along with the long pins that are visable on the outside of the planks. In a 1:1 it’s possible to lift those pins out to quickly remove the planks for easy unloading and loading. Nice that it’s been included on the cast.

The over all details are just well executed for what isn’t a high end model in comparison to some other makes. While the cab is open as far as it has the door windows rolled down there are no opening features apart from the tailgate. I’ll leave you with a few more pictures.

The underside is pretty well done with the chassis being a separate cast. The leaf springs are faithfully reproduced although nonfunctional. Differential and front ‘I’ beam axle look correct and the engine sump and gearbox are painted in the correct chev orange.

Ok, that’s it from me. Can I take the bow tie off now? The elastic is killing me. :)
