Not sure if that’s it’s proper name but that’s how MBX list it. I found searching Willys Jeep truck led me to the correct vehicle. Seems the MBX cast is modeled off a 1950/53 model series as the five horizontal grill bars were reduced to three from 1953 onwards. Anyway the cast itself is a near perfect miniature of the JEEP but something went wrong at MBX. It seems the base may have been designed by someone from HW? It’s crazy height over stock is not the usual thing from MBX so I set about getting a more stock ride height, also the original wheels just weren’t right for the cast.
It actually looks really good on the MBX wheels with dog dish hubcaps and dress rings. For this custom I went with some wheels stolen from an abandoned 2CV from Welly, the bumpers also made it into this deal as the short bearded guy said something about ‘bundle deals’? Whatever, they fit really well so why not. Plus I needed some replacements anyhow.
Side by side stock and custom, strange seeing the custom look stock and stock look custom?
Painted the section below the rear window in body colour as it should be.
Added some silver on the door handles and hood trim.
Just various shots of the base taking shape.
My wife was working last night so I couldn’t work on this in the shed like usual. Once the kids were asleep I just set up in the carport on the back of the UTE!!
Forgot to get a shot of the underside fitted before it went out in the dirt for the ORAT shots. I took a bit of shaping to get to fit but I’m happy with the end result. it feels as solid as a factory issued cast.
Ok some more ORAT shots to finish up. Enjoy, or don’t, it’s totally up to you! ;)
