Twin Mill and The Red Baron.
After a fairly recent iHWEP with vdubyajohn I was introduced to 100% Hot Wheels for the first time with the awesome Cadillac hearse he sent. I was straight on to ebay looking for more, found this set which was featured earlier this year by Enginerrrrrrrrr psychedelic-relics and remembered that I needed it!
They come in a nice display case but I DLM pretty much everything and these are no exception. I’m disappointed that only Twin Mill is held with screws but the Red Baron is held in place with tie wires and a small plastic blister for support. It really should be screwed in place so it can be easily returned to the case. That’s my only major gripe with this fine set.
Both casts seem to have bespoke Real Riders that are mounted solid with the axle instead of the usual free spinning arrangement. The high level of detail and fit and finish are what I was expecting after seeing the Cadillac hearse, I wasn’t disappointed.
The top four pictures are the results of me playing around with the settings on the iPhone and lighting. I took these shots in a different place and had to improvise a little.
This is the main reason I got this set but after having a good look at Twin Mill I’m glad I got the pair. Sonzilla loves Twin Mill thanks to the recent Team Hot Wheels animation. I haven’t shown him this set in person as I think his head will explode, it’s best he dosen’t know about them for now...
I love this Red Baron cast!
Not sure where to start! All the details are really well done including the two cowl mounted machine guns. Looks like the rims are made to resemble the iron cross emblem used on the helmet sides and radiator.
Now Twin Mill is a mighty fine cast in its own right. The details are all great as you’d expect from a 100% HW cast.
The orange seat inserts are a nice touch and I like the chrome grab handle for some reason. The ‘Mills’ received some nice paint details as well.
Love that ‘Flying Eyeball’!! Noticed one head light is misaligned when editing the picture. Not sure if it’s loose or just badly positioned.
Another feature I like about this cast is the opening top and the way it pivots around the wheel perfectly.
A seperate clear red tail light! Nice. The diff housing is a nice touch but the exhaust tips could be better.
