Teutonic Tuesday: Mercedes-Benz Pullman

This is an old Corgi cast in 1:43 and has some amazing added features. Working windscreen wipers are the highlight but it also has opening and closing rear windows! Oh yeah and nice suspension, factory alloy rims and rubber tyres.

I picked this up recently and don’t know much about it other than it floats my boat. It’s had a lot of use over the years but still works well, not bad considering it was made sometime between 1964-69. It only came out in this deep red or maroon (wife says I’m colour blind, meh. It came in the colour you see here!) Not sure if I’ll leave this as is or do a tasteful restoration on it. It’s not a rare or expensive by the looks of it so maybe one day I’ll do it.

Most of the chrome plate is gone as is the three pointed star which is common on these apparently.

That windscreen is supposed to look like that. At first I thought it was just play wear but it’s actually textured to resemble rain on the glass. Of course! Why would you need working wipers on the clear ‘dry’ screen?

**Batteries not included**

Because they aren’t required! The wipers are powered by the rear wheels as the car is rolled along. You can disengage the drive for times when there’s no rain. I’ve linked to a page at the end of this post of a complete strip down of this model. Those interested in seeing how the mechanism works cans see it there.

I’ve included a couple of clips showing the various functions functioning, funky.

The one below is short and shows the wipers wiping.

This one is longer and shows all features.

Here’s the renovation corgi mercedes pullman 600 page if you want to see what make it tick. Not my page, just stumbled across it searching for info on this cast.

Thanks for looking.
