Majorette gloss paint experiment - Boss 302.

I was happy that the Majorettes where coming back to Canada, but I haven’t really fallen in love with much of the lineup. Mostly due to the rampant use of matte paint. I decided to do a little experiment.

I decided to pick up this nice Majorette Boss Mustang as a test mule. I just masked the wheels and cleaned the car, gave it two thin coats of automotive clearcoat to see what the results would be.

This is what happened (predictably):

Gloss paint test, only masked wheels. Two coats automotive grade clear coat in spray can. No prep other than cleaning.

I wasn’t sure how the surface would react to just hitting it with clear, but tried anyway (would be quick and convenient). I wasn’t that surprised the windows didn’t like it, and I’m sure another coat or two would fix the surface, but it was just a test.

This little guy will now go into the hands of my 2 year old son, so I guess you could say it’s now a durability and suspension test next !! But mostly interested to see if the clear sticks well to the matte surface.

I will likely buy more of these and take them apart first. I do like a few Majorettes that really could use a gloss paint treatment.
