I did not know what this was. An RV place diagnosed a friend’s Roadtrek with two dead house batteries and a bad battery separator. I confirmed that the batteries were dead after only three years. Replaced them after scraping and rust converting one of the battery trays with Corroseal, then painting it.
It took me forever for me to grasp how the battery separator works. This makes me concerned for early dementia. Maybe my recent concussion.
I tested it, thought it was good, then a few days later thought it was bad, repeat x3. I ordered a new one since the RV place had said it was bad. I let the separator sit around for a week but now I can’t find it anywhere. I’ve spent the last few days looking for it. aargh!! Driving me nuts. And worrying about early dementia.
I don’t think I actually need it since I believe the separator works, it’s just driving me nuts and I spent $120. The batteries weren’t charging because the inverter/charger plug was loose! That took a week for me to figure out after thinking I needed to replace the inverter/charger. The RV place diagnosis of a bad separator was wrong. I bent the prongs a little and added a ziptie to the plug.
oh yeah, the mystery part is an auto-reset circuit breaker ganged for 80 amp service for those unfamiliar with RV electricals. Two more of those are connected to the red wires above. I can now identify RV circuit breakers and am an expert on battery separators.
But I’m going crazy trying to find the new separator I ordered. Going out to look for it some more.
