In this episode, I’m cleaning up decades worth of filth from the transmission, engine, and engine bay of the chassis and finally discover if my transmission is magnesium or aluminum.
1977 was the last year for the magnesium cased transmissions, but they had all the internal updates and beefier components of later versions, so they’re extremely desirable. For equipment, I was just using Gunk Engine Degreaser Gel, an assortment of wire brushes to agitate the crud, and a pressure washer.
