Nice Day.

Almost killed somebody today, when they stepped into the street without looking only 20 or 30 feet in front of my car. Luckily the person behind them pulled them back and I was paying attention. The car stopped about five feet past where they stood.

Hitting a pedestrian is one of my biggest fears, so I’m always looking for and aware of people on the side of the street. These two were not at a cross walk or an intersection, and she was busy talking to him and did not look toward me as she stepped into the street - he was looking directly at me as she stepped into the street and grabbed her back. I was watching for them, but still didn’t think she was about to walk into the street since she didn’t look.

This is maybe the second time in normal street driving I’ve hit the brakes so hard I locked all the wheels on dry pavement - which makes a lot of noise and a lot smoke (no ABS). The guy looked pretty embarrassed actually, didn’t really see the girl’s face.

Anyway kids, look both ways before crossing the street, and always be aware of pedestrians even if they’re not at a crosswalk.
