One of my favorite short subjects. Beautifully shot, edited, narrated and scored. It won an award - and got its director fired.
Most documentary work aims decidedly towards being not art. This is the complete opposite of that. It’s romantic, it’s emotional, it tells a story beyond what is provided by either the words of the narration or the visuals of the images. It’s a very rare thing for a documentary film to attempt, and here it succeeds.
The fact that the man behind it just wanted to make a good film, out of a passion for making good films, rather than a passion for the subject matter, is nothing short of amazing.
