WHY WOULD YOU OFFER THE SAME EXACT THING AS A BUYOUT AS YOU WOULD A LAYOFF?!?!?!?

Here me out. If you voluntarily take a buyout, you forgo any possibility of unemployment benefits. If you force the company to lay you off (this is the case in at least the state of Ohio I believe), regardless of the severance package, you will be eligible for unemployment after said severance is expired. So why in the right minds would GM offer the same exact benefits as a buyout offer as you would if you were laid off?

Also, I’m back. Maybe. Depending how busy I am this winter from work (it’s hard to inspect bridges when it’s icy/cold/snowy).
