Ocupado

My mom died April 15th of this year (after assuring my sister and I that her taxes were, in fact, filed). My Significant Other, who is Japanese, wanted something to remember her by (she was in Japan when the funeral took place). My sister and I selected some teacups, among them this one:

My parents were married in 1953, with WWII having been over for less than a decade. So it sort of makes sense that what was probably a wedding gift says on the bottom:

Yes, despite years of wear, it still says “Made in Occupied Japan.” It’s china, but it’s not what that usually means.

Wow - we bragged about that. Just ... wow.
