I’ve been unemployed since February 11th, laid off due to the tough year my company had in 2019. Seems like I got laid off in a different world, bars were still open and I had a fun weekend in Vancouver with my wife. I was hesitant to spend the money doing those things then, but now that all bars/entertainment venues are closed, I have no regrets.
I’m glad to be going back to work, and very thankful at a time when so many are now themselves being laid off.
Monday is my first day, but due to my bosses recent trip to NYC, I’ll just be sitting at home and getting paid with my first day in the office on Tuesday after my boss’s 14 day quarantine expires.
My new position is in claims advocacy, which is what I did for 5 years before being an adjuster. This time, I will be setting up an advocacy practice in a growing company of 1500 people. I am their first advocate and will be growing the department as the company expands.
I was supposed to fly to Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba in the coming weeks, but that looks like it will be postponed/cancelled and replaced by Zoom meetings.
These are obviously unprecedented times, and advocacy will be a challenge as insurers/adjusters/restoration firms and the legal system have all been effectively decimated by COVID-19. I look forward to working with my new clients and company to ensure that companies get what they paid for in terms of insurance.
