Hydrogen and transport don’t mix.
I recently learned that when you lease/buy a Mirai, Toyota gives you $15K USD in Hydrogen fuel credits. This is, apparently, transferable if somebody buys the used car or takes over your lease.
Interested by this, I put in a little research and looked up what Mirai’s are selling for in Vancouver right now. There’s 1 new one (2019 M/Y) for $75K(!!!!!) and then a shit-ton of used ones with low mileage for $18,000 to $20,000 range.
If we take this frankly bewildering depreciation and couple it with the fact that 20,000km (12,000 miles) probably didn’t use too much of that fuel budget, you could probably pick up one of these and run it with next to no costs for quite some time.
The only drawback of course is fueling stations. Which...if you’re not in Metro Vancouver (3) or California....you’re pretty much fucked outside of a random one in La Petite-Rivière Québec or Wallingford Connecticut.
I could conceivably do it, which is kinda tempting in a weird way....but I think I’ll pass.
