Remember a couple months ago when I decided to opt out of that FR-S recall?

Citing fears about the complexity of the fix and how easy it is to screw up the oiling system?

Looks like I was right, there have been a not insignifigant number of post recall engine failures. Forums are pretty much dead these days, but there is still a thread on ft86 right now with 17 post recall engine failures. Most of them involve rod knock.

There is an article on the drive that came out today that goes into detail about what exactly is happening.

I’ll be curious to see if Toyota of Subaru issue a statement on the issue.
