Ate some Coney dogs, saw some art. At the direction of some of Oppo’s Detroiters, I hit up two of the city’s oldest Coney dog joints. I had no idea the Coney dog was invented in Detroit by Greek immigrants. The two oldest Coney joints in town were started by members of the Keros family and sit right next to each other. I decided to get a dog from each of them, because I hate myself.

There’s a ton of awesome architecture in this city, and I could spend a whole week wandering around. However, I only had a few hours, so I hit up the Detroit Institute of Art in order to check out the Diego Rivera murals. Coming from the Southwest, it was cool to see one of the seminal pieces by the husband of Mexico’s greatest artist. I know we’re all a bunch of gear heads here, but if you visit Detroit, definitely check out the art institute. It’s one of, if not the most impressive collections I’ve seen in North America. If you’re an educator you can register fir free admission and residents of the surrounding counties get free admissions. Breathtaking stuff. You have a great city, Detroiters.
