In this video Ryan takes the 2020 Subaru Outback Touring edition on the Rock Trail offroad course to see how Symmetrical All Wheel Drive with X Mode performs. Then it’s off to higher elevations to test how it works in tricky, icy snow.
For those curious why we don’t use Snow Tires in all these tests: By using all-seasons we make it more difficult and therefore can better see what the system is doing. So instead of just driving up a hill we can see the system react and try to transfer power. If we ran ideal tires, it would just be a car driving up an obstacle. Nothing is learned by seeing that.

We do have a Subaru Snow Tire video coming up in January.
