After two months of tension and contract negotiations involving federal mediators, my labor union has called a strike. I spent the rest of my scheduled shift picketing with my coworkers.

Any northeast Oppos are probably at least somewhat aware of what’s been going on. Our labor contract was up in February and the proposal the company wanted the union to ratify involved cuts to our pensions, healthcare benefits, pay raises, and more, that the company claims are necessary despite reporting $2 billion in profits last year.

The union has not been greedy during all this. They have simply been fighting to renew our current contract as-is.

Heading into the easter holiday, the loss of 31k workers is intended to be a big blow to the company and hopefully that will make them capitulate by the end of the week.
