This was taken outside a local shop that I’ve posted about before. For a small town, this place is a real gem. Tons of interesting cars here all the time. This particular day there was what appeared to be a well-done E39 M5 wagon. Everything looked right on the outside, and while it *could* have just been appearances, I kind of doubt it. I will have to ask my friend who works there if it was legit - and by that I mean, of course, was the swap done well.
Also, the Rangey on the left has a 3-digit plate (819) which is cool if you’re into that sort of thing (I am). Yes, yes, there are 911's, an M3, some bikes, a VW bus, and some other stuff there too.
The owner of this place is one of those people who’s impossibly busy all the time, and yet kind and generous beyond what’s reasonable. One day I had a rear control arm snap on my E46 wagon at the gas station 1/4 mile from this place. He drove by, stopped, and offered to help. Not just by crawling under and saying “yup that’s borked” but he brought my car into his shop, sourced a used replacement part from his yard inventory, and helped me put it in. On a day they were closed. And he wouldn’t take any money.
Then today, he did a smaller but still nice gesture. There’s a little church in our town that hasn’t really been a church for years, but was used for some small-time theater productions and live music. Recently it was purchased by people who are renovating it into living space, and they’re ditching all the pews. I stopped yesterday to ask if I could buy one or have one, and they said yeah. So today I went to pick it up and the owner of the auto shop was there with 2 other guys, two trucks, and a flat trailer. He bought all the pews and was taking them home. “But you can have a couple if you want, just help us load a few on our trailer and we’ll help you load two in your truck.” “But you paid for them so can I give you some money?” “No but if you want more just let me know.”
So now what do I do with two 10-foot-long benches? I walked around my house with a tape measure and there’s basically nowhere they’ll fit. I might cut one down to about 7' long and re-attach the end, to put it in our mudroom where a little bench is now. They’re (I think) oak? and really nice in general. It was raining though and now they’re under a tarp in the truck, so no pics. Not that this is a church pew blog anyway... ok that’s enough words.
