Nothing fancy, just an older but fairly clean ThinkPad L420 with an i5, won on eBay for $27. The LCD was damaged, but I found a suitable replacement in my piles of junk. I also scrounged 8GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD replacing the 4GB and 160GB hard drive. It didn’t come with a power supply, but I had one laying around. I also discovered that the mini dock I found at the Goodwill Outlet (where else?) was compatible with this machine once I figured out how to slide one part out of the way.
Windows install is progressing, and then I can give it a little workout. I know it’s not a killer performance machine, but it’s a ThinkPad and that means it’ll soldier on for years. Perhaps it’ll make a nice upgrade for my dad; I think he’s still using the same old computer he bought 7-8 years ago.
