Last week was the brakes. I had some assistance, and while I definitely appreciate help, nobody enjoys working on your car more than you do (even if you don’t like it, you like it more than your assistant). As such, a few things I had hoped to accomplish got pushed aside as my helper definitely was ready to be done.

So today, my son and I went out in the garage to tackle a little bit of the front end. Inner and outer tie rod ends, idler arm, and greased the steering box. The box took a LOT of grease. I have a pitman arm puller, but I could’ve gotten the job done with a simple tap to separate the tie rod ends. A job I was dreading turned out to be super easy to disassemble. The Cougar was a BEAR to get apart. Thus far, the Mustang has not fought at all as far as stuck bolts. I imagine that won’t be the case when I get to the leaf springs.

It took about 30 minutes to get everything apart. Another hour or so to get it all back together and greased up. Steering effort is much better, but I still need a properly sized steering wheel. Now, it’s suspension research time, and time for some wheels and tires. I’m getting closer to being on the road. I’d test drive it, but I’m out of gas. I need to go fill up the 5 gallon can.
