I can’t seem to shake the notion I want a convertible in the worst way, conflicted is definitely a great adjective. We currently own a 2007 Porsche Cayman, a 2016 Ford Focus Titanium, and a 2018 Tacoma SR5. We’re empty nesters and.. both work from home. I don’t need a fourth car, hell I don’t need a car at all. I certainly can’t justify a convertible living in Seattle, it rains some here..
But the want is strong cuz I’ve never owned a convertible, my wife grew up driving softops, and I think it would be a lot of fun. Also, I can pay cash if I choose to buy one.
That said I need to conserve cash as I have a plan to retire and move to the Caribbean in 2.5 years when I turn 60. To do this with plenty of cushion I’ll need to save a bit more but I know I can squirrel away enough to meet my goals.
At the end of September we’re going to Belize for a couple of weeks and the prospect of choosing this fine country for a permanent home is quite likely. I may buy an oceanside lot or home while we’re there, TBD. Whenever we do move I’ll sell my cars and keep the Taco and then it makes sense to buy a convertible for a fun car. I think I may have talked myself out of buying a convertible for the time being, but every damned day I’m looking at cars online.
