Old wheel bearings suck

My old Mazda B2600i had a dragging in the front left wheel when turning that sounded very much like a wheel bearing going bad.

This truck is the style of wheel bearing that thankfully isn’t used much anymore. It’s multiple tapered bearings and races embedded in the hub that also has the brake rotor mounted on it.

It requires a fair amount of things taken apart, in a specific order and then with the tension set just right and put back together.

This process is all quite a pain to do, especially the replacing of races. Luckily the races in there are okayish so I’m not going to replace them, just the crunchy bearings.

I think this guy failed as when I went to take it apart the tension wasn’t set correctly and was a little loose. I do not have the tools required to set everything exact so it gets the old ‘adjust it until you barely start to feel a drag’ method.

On top of it I still can’t find decent quality nitrile gloves anywhere so this is all done gloveless which is a pain in the ass.

At any rate Happy Sunday Afternoon Oppo!
