First day at work under my belt

Today was my first day on my new job. They’re a electrical engineering contractor based out of the DC area, but I’ll be working in San Jose and am still in Missouri now. I’m doing two weeks remote to finish getting the house ready to sell.

Good god was it boring though, my day started at 6am and stopped at 430 pm. There was an hour of HR stuff in the morning and the rest of the day was OSHA training! This meant someone droning on over Zoom who didn’t really know how to use it with 30 people who didn’t mute their mics on the other end.

Tomorrow will be much the same with a 6am start and expected OSHA training until 2. Wednesday will be the start of normal with conversations with the IT engineers about the UCS cluster I’ll be setting up.

The move is from a large quasi-governmental organization to a large gov’t contractor so it isn’t a giant change but it should insert some flexibility and new challenges into my job.

At any rate I’m excited about the new gig!
