Complete with larger in your face kidney grills, the 2020 looks to top the previous 7 Series with so much more tech and luxury it makes you think what they have planned for the next 7.There are 5 trim levels to choose from spanning 4 engine choices with one of them being a first plug in hybrid option for the 7:
The base 740i starts at $86,450. Powered by 3.0 TwinPower Turbo 335 horse I6. There are 2 sub designs to choose from. The standard Luxury and M Sport. M Sports an M steering wheel, an areo kit shadowline trim and a special headliner. All for $3400 more. I selected this design.
With this being a 7 Series, you know exterior color choices would be plenty. There are 17 to choose from: standard metallic and non metallic colors and special BMW Individual selections. With the M Sport selected though, 6 of those standard colors aren’t available to choose. I choose the BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue II Metallic. That added $1,950 to the price, as do all the other BMW Individual colors. Wheel choices are similarly plentiful, with 8 to choose from: 1 18’, 3 19’ and 4 20’ designs. Of course those are splint between whether or not you choose Luxury or M Sport. I choose a $1300 M split spoke design with run flat performance tires.
Interior leather choices are the same multitudes. There are a whopping 20 different interior leather color choices. 6 of those however are BMW Individual. I chose from this selection the Fiona Red leather with Black leather dash and door trim. This added $5,500 to the price. There are also 9 different dash inlays you can choose from, ranging from woods, to high gloss trims to metals. I choose the Piano Black trim since that was the only selection that seemed to work with the exterior and interior colors. This added $1,080.
There are 7 option packages that make this car easily crest 6 figures:
Autobahn Package $4,100: Described as enhancing vehicle driving dynamics, it equips the 7 with integral active steering (fancy name for variable steering) and Active Comfort Drive which is pretty much just a adaptive suspension with different settings.
Cold Weather Package $750: Equips the 7 with heated front armrests, front and rear heated seats and remote start.
Driving Assistance Professional Package $1,700: Comes with Active Driving assistant pro, which bundles a suite of driving aids like active cruise control, lane keep assist and emergency braking into a single package with traffic jam assistant.
Interior Design Package $1,800: This one was confusing because I’m not sure if this has something to do with the BMW Individual options or if this is outside of it. But it allows you to select things like wood rear arm rests, luxury floor mats (whatever that means) and 3 different Alcantara headliners 2 of which are another $1,050 on top of the $1,800.
Luxury Rear Seating Package $3,900:Equips the rear seats with massaging, adjustment and heating and cooling functions as well as heated front and rear armrests.
Premium Package $3,000: For 3 grand this package only comes with 2 things, a hud display and power rear & side sunshades.
Executive Package $2,500: This covers interior controls in deep black ceramic finish, while adding ventilated front seats and a a pano led roof.
I added all of these with the exception of the Premium Package would require the remove of the red seating I selected, and the Cold Weather Package.
Outside of those packages there are stand alone options :

- BMW Laserlight $1,000: What I’m assuming is bright ass headlights. Described as providing the maximum output allowable for the US.
- Anthracite Headliner
- Extended Shadowline trim $350

- Rear Seat entertainment system $2,700
- M Sport Brakes $650
- Space Saver spare $150
- Night vision with pedestrian detection $2,300
You can pretty much add all of these without any caveats. All in, a base 740i as optioned with nearly all options and the M Sport trim will set you back $114,730. The Luxury design with the same options (aside from a different $2300 20’ wheel) is pricier. $115,950 with the same options.
The 740i xDrive model comes out cheaper at first due to its weird way with options. Identically optioned with the blue exterior and red interior and M Sport design, you cant select the Premium or Executive packages because for some weird reason they conflict with the interior color. Doing so requires you change to another color. So I didn’t select these. Choosing the individual options though raises the price quickly. All in a 740i xDrive M Sport is $123,280; Luxury is $3,030 cheaper at $120,250.
The next model up the 7 Series chain is the 750i xDrive. Starting at $102,650 and only available with awd, this gets powered by a 4.4 L TwinPower Turbo V8 with a not too shabby 523 horses. BMW estimates a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds.
Everything’s the same on this trim. The main difference is the availability of a Rear Executive Lounge Seating Package. For $5,750 it includes:
- Electric reclining seats and footrests
- Rear seat entertainment system
- An executive rear center console with fold out table
With the same options, a 750i xDrive M Sport is $123,950. Luxury trim? Exactly 8 grand more at a crazy $131,950.
The next 7 Series is the closest I think we will ever come to getting an M7. Starting at $157,700, the M760i xDrive is powered by a 6.6 L TwinPower Turbo V12 tuned by M Performance. It puts out 600 horses and 627 lb/ft of torque to all 4 wheels giving it a 3.6 second 0-60 time. You also don’t get to choose a luxury design on this trim as well since its M Sport.
Colors on the M Sport are simplified as well due to its sporting nature consisting of just 11 choices. They are mostly just variations on white or silver unless you go into the BMW Individual. Option packages on this trim are simplified as well, going from 7 to just 3: the driving assistance package, the luxury rear seating package and the rear executive lounge seating package. Adding the last one for some reason on the M requires the addition of a 7’ tablet for the rear passengers as well. I added all of these. All in, you’re looking at pretty much $180k for a fully loaded M760i.
The new addition to the 7 Series line is the plug in hybrid 745e xDrive iPerformance (long ass name).Starting at $95,550 it comes with the 3.0 L TwinPower Turbo I6 with 280 horses and 330 lb.ft of torque. The integrated electric motors are 111 horses and 195 lb/ft of torque for a combined output of 391 horses and 525 lb/ft of torque. As optioned, a 745e M Sport is $132,180; Luxury design is $120,350.
These prices pretty much line up with the LS/A8/S. The addition of a hybrid model also puts it in rare company as only Lexus and Mercedes offer hybrid variants of their large luxury sedan.
