Truck day

Let’s start with the good: there’s a 5 ton military truck for sale in some random backwater, and an M715 for sale in my neck(ish) of the woods. Hooray for senseless but sexy trucks I could own.

I spotted this near Charlotte Court House, VA. Yes, that’s really the name of the town.

And I linked to the M715 earlier. So much want. Although I just got a reply from the seller and there’s no power steering, so I’d have to figure out how much trouble that would take to add.

Now for the bad: holy hell, is US-60 through the George Washington National Forest scary, thanks to the commercial trucks, especially the logging trucks.

See how twisty the road is where I’ve circled? Yeah, those trucks don’t slow down much.

I had my windshield down briefly on 60, but after passing one logging truck at 100+mph (relative) I decided I wasn’t that brave.

But that wasn’t the end of my trucking woes today. One problem with no roof and no doors? You smell everything.

I’d swear in a court of law that one truck was carrying multiple carcasses beneath some mulch. That was the most horrific smell, and I was stuck behind it for several miles. At first I wasn’t sure it was the truck, and then the driver had his turn signal on for a mile or two, so I thought the worst would soon be over. Turned out he was just teasing me.

Later I nearly lost my dinner when a tanker truck pulled up beside me. I have no idea what biological waste it was hauling, but we were at a red light for a few minutes and I was seriously contemplating my escape route. Just awful, nearly retched out of my (thankfully missing) door.

Anyway, on a more pleasant note, some more trucks I spotted today.

Ambulances count, right? Still not quite sure what that place does.
