my hero: dude who autocrosses his town car.

went on my very first autocross event today at ncm motorsports in bowling green. it wasn’t a points event so no numbers and no leader board but also no working the track and you get to go round as many times as you can handle, which meant that in 5 and a half hours of driving i got 14 runs in.

what. a. blast.

good people, good times, lots of fun. i took more than 3 seconds off from my first run (45.9) to my best one (41.7), which was just off the pace from all the professional autocross folks out there who were pushing 40 and below, so i was super happy and felt good about my first try at it. also, tires still have tread, brakes still look good and no squishy pedal, no spin outs and only took down about 6 cones all day. hurrah!

but that’s not actually the reason for this post.

the reason for this post is that i was looking down the track after my first run and lo and behold, i saw not a miata, not a corvette, not a mustang, not a toyobaru twin (there were a ton of examples of all of those) but a lincoln. town. car. i introduced myself IMMEDIATELY after he queued up for his next run. dude has done a decent amount of suspension work to his town car and progressively got his times down through the course of the day to where it was on par with a lot of cars MUCH faster than his. his last run when i left was a shade faster than my first one, and i’ve got some bavarian b58 muscle and a very modern suspension on my ride. for all that, he is my hero of the day. bravo, town car dude.
