There just wasn't enough misery in my life

As a result, I decided to buy a British car. But not just ANY British car, one I couldn’t even test drive first!

1977 MG Midget. Brake pedal and clutch go straight to the floor. Some gauges work, some don’t. Some lights work, some don’t. Carb pisses gas. Top has a few small splits. Passenger side seatbelt doesn’t work. Hood release cable is busted. Vent windows don’t seal. Horn doesn’t horn. But, someone at some point did care about this car. Body is rust free, repainted 5 or 6 years ago, interior is shockingly nice, trim bits are all there and nice, floors and trunk are solid, and someone swapped in a nice Weber carb. Whoever it was that took good care of the car, it wasn’t the PO. In 4 years of ownership, the car has done less than 100 miles.

On the upside, I got it for a song, and my wife likes it, so it didn’t take much convincing in order to convince her this was a good idea.

This actually isn’t my first British car, so I do have some idea what I’m getting into, but that was long enough ago that my mind (and wallet) have dulled the memory. Wish me luck?
