For those living under a rock for the past few days, team Oppo banded together, no surprise there and we’re quickly moving through the ranks. With 163 active CPU/GPUs we have quite a bit of raw compute horsepower at the ready.

Our fearless folding leader Rusty Vandura had the brilliant idea to create the team (261120) less than a week ago and we’ve quickly landed ourselves in the top 1% of all the active folding teams and there’s no chance of slowing us down. Quite the feat in such a short amount of time!

Folding at home is a way to utilizes spare CPU across all modern computers (Windows, OSx and Linux, plus your GPU time (AMD/Nvidia) for PC and Linux users (sorry Mac folks, no GPU support) to solve complex protein folding simulations, with donated computer resources. This folding helps scientists look for cures to a plethora of health issues; Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, Coronavirus 19, and Ebola virus disease. The total power of all folding at home users, is enough to overshadow the top 500 super computers performance, combined!

With our collective power, we are now at ~2.4 exaFLOPS (faster than the top 500 supercomputers combined)! We complement supercomputers like IBM Summit, which runs short calculations using 1000s of GPUs at once, by spreading longer calculations around the world in smaller chunks! pic.twitter.com/fdUaXOcdFJ

If you haven’t joined and have some spare computer resources you’re willing to spare, please head over to the f@h homepage to download the software. Keep in mind this will use a little more electricity and produce more heat from your computer but it all goes towards a good cause.
