It’s back after a couple weeks of furlough! This shirt dates back to the 1999 Hemelgarn Racing team and its drivers, 1996 Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Lazier and Johnny Unser. Prominant on the shirt is Taebo fitness system , a revolutionary fitness program who was the team primary sponser.
It was said the entire Hemelgarn team will work out exclusively with the Tae-Bo fitness system, which combines Tae Kwon Do, boxing, dance and aerobics. What some people will do for sponsorship! All of this peaked with what was claimed “the worlds largest Tae-Bo workout” at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the 2000 Indy 500.
The IRL was running the Olds Aurora indy V8 from 1996 to 2001. Launched in 1996 it was the spec engine for Indycar. Assembled Indy Aurora V8 engines were available initially from four engine builders: Katech, Inc. (Mt. Clemens, Mich.); Rocketsports Evolution (Lansing, Mich.); Roush Technologies (Livonia, Mich.); and Team Menard (Indianapolis, Ind.). As required by IRL regulations, race-ready Indy Aurora V8 engines will be available for $75,000 each. In 2002 it was rebranded as the Chevy 8.
1999 was during the 1998 - 2003 peak era for Hemelgarn racing. During this time they had at least one and often two cars running the complete season. Accomplishments include a Buddy Lazier 1st and 2nd in series points 2000 and 2001. He also had 6 wins during the period.
