When going off-trail is less overgrown than the trail

Today I went on a hike, particularly choosing a deserted area to avoid people. Regardless of the pandemic going on, it’s Saturday of a holiday weekend so I’m not going to a popular trailhead. On the way up to the peak on my 6.5 mile route, I picked off 11 ticks from my pants (good thing I wasn’t in shorts!). So on the way back down I took a shortcut straight down the peak shown above. This cut two whole miles (if not a little bit more) from the journey back. And it was much less overgrown heading down that ridge into the valley. Plus I found that cool rusted out truck out there.

Wonderful day to get out there! Supposed to get real hot the next few days so today was the day to do it. I’ve gotta think about removing my ski rack finally. I don’t think there is any hope that mammoth opens for some July skiing. While they still have snow, it’s just unlikely they go through the hassle to open. And for sure every person in LA is gonna want to get up. And no way in hell am I staying in the hostel until next year. But eh one can dream which is the only reason I haven’t pulled it off and swapped it out for the surf board pads.

Happy Memorial day weekend everybody! Time to go eat my crock pot ribs that have been cooking all day.
