Centric rings arrived yesterday, and it stopped raining today, so i went to finally test fit/install snows on the Camaro. Rears went on with no issue, though backspacing is considerably less than with the stock Irocs. Fronts will not fit at all, both strut and lower control arms block the rim from fully going on. Now the solution is to buy a set of spacers. The only hub centric spacers that I can find to fit a third gen front hub are 3", and I need ~2". This could all have been avoided by test fitting when I purchased, but it was pouring rain and so I deferred, thinking “I can fix it with spacers”. This series of mistakes, all which could have been avoided with a little research, led me here. Moral of the story- research! Though this probably wont be the last time I fail to do so properly. My two options are to buy non hub centric spacers, or to put wheels and tires back up for sale and order some snow tires for the Irocs.
Pro/con list for each-
Spacer option(2" front, 2” centric rear)
Pros
- Cheaper- total cost 150$ tires+rims, 118$ front spacers, 73$ rear spacers =341$
- Will end up with dedicated set of winter wheels
Cons
- Imperfect solution- fronts not on centric hubs- using 5x120 rims on 5x120.65 studs- shouldn’t be an issue(?), but I’d prefer to have the force routed through the hub
- Time- shipping will take til middle of november
Snows on Irocs
Pros
- Brand new snow tires!
- Proper spacing
- Irocs look better than steelies
Cons
- Expensive- 619$ plus mounting and balancing at a local shop
- Stuck with winter tires through summer(not the end of the world, as safari/rally build is planned)
- Must sell the snow tires I bought.
I’m leaning towards the spacer option at the moment, but if anyone with experience has advice (my bird is the word, looking at you), I could be convinced otherwise. The final, sad option is always to just put the camaro away for the winter:(.
