Clipper Maid of the Seas pulled away from the gate at London Heathrow. Loaded in a cargo container in the forward hold was a device hidden in a Toshiba Bombeat boombox. 54 minutes later it would crash into the village of Lockerbie, Scotland, killing all on board and 11 on the ground. Pan Am would be gone a few years later, mostly as a result of this incident, and a 30 year, mostly futile attempt to get justice for the victims and their families would follow.
