I’ve had my 2018 GTI for about 2 and a half years now, and I’m thinking about replacing it. While I do really like the way it drives, I haven’t been able to enjoy it nearly as much as I had hoped to due to some build quality issues that have not been good for my OCD tendencies. As silly as it sounds, it’s reached the point that I’ve decided I’ll be better off just getting something else, at least once covid dies down a bit. So, what to get?

As sacrilegious as it may be for a car enthusiast, the CX-5 has really been drawing my eye. Yes, it’s a dreaded crossover, but I’ve been wanting something a bit larger, a bit easier to get in and out of, with a bit more ground clearance so I don’t have to worry about scraping on inclines - something that’s already happened with the GTI a couple times, even when I’m being careful. I think with the turbo and maybe a set of coilovers to lessen the stock wheel gap the Mazda will hit just the right spot. How much of a heretic would I be if I did this?
