Is there anything better than digging up old concrete?

... Yes! Yes there ARE things better than digging up old concrete! Captions below:

Good thing the last guy was skimpy with the concrete. This one took 30 minutes to dig out with my noodle arms.

This one was far worse. Took over an hour. Put some gravel in each hole dry fit the new posts. I used various levels and a story pole to measure the tops (they’re all 5'6" daylight, so I had to cut each posts... And I’ll have to cut all 130 pickets down WOO!

Now you see the problem, yes? I had to dig a HUGE hole just to get to the old concrete, unless I wanted to break it up with a hammer (no). So now we have a hole that’s at least double the width of what we need.

I added more pieces, don’t fret. But I shielded the new posts as I began packing in the soil on the outside. This took a little while. But when I pulled up the wood, the soil stayed. Worked perfectly!

Oh boy, the best part. Mixing and pouring concrete with a shovel on a day 20 degrees hotter than Friday.

2nd post went alright, pretty much no room to work since the posts are between his hedges and my raised garden bed. Ran out of quickcrete doing the third post 🤦

Also redneckian tactic? I mixed the concrete in a five gallon bucket with a shovel I didn’t care for. I forgot that I didn’t own a wheelbarrow anymore.
