Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
...it was after hours and nobody was there to make a lock or slimjim it. The driver... was fortunate to catch a sales guy on the way out who happened to have a slimjim kit. That’s not a mechanic, it’s a sales dude...!
This was a 2016 Camry from the auction. Ended up getting (another) new ball joint, control arm, and wheel bearing.
What happened here? Read between the lines.

So last week it failed for a few things..one being the hole in the subframe. Guy brings it back today and says “ hey I got the subframe fixed but not the other stuff, can you check and see if it was fixed right?” We get it in the air and yeah....fiberall coating all over the place! The didnt even try and hide the giant hole in the subframe, not like that would have passed anyway!

The tiny holy [sic] in the crystallized DEF (which was about 12" thick and 100% solid) was the only remaining pathway for DEF to flow.

2016 F150 crew cab. Both rear doors full of water. Both door drains blocked with debris.

...Customer wanted to take his tires and wheels off his trailer. I think he was going to get new rubber. Couldnt get the lugnuts off but loosened them slightly. Then he couldn’t tighten them all the way down properly. He drove 50 miles to get the trailer home without an issue. Came in showed us pictures. We told him to get it towed and to go buy a lotto ticket. Customer makes an appointment. It waa sitting there day of. He drove it to our shop a mile from his house. The wheel fell off 3 times in that trip.

Misc junk, some nice stuff (a tactical axe, some 5.11 bag) and LOTS of damp smelly stuff. ...guy had a purple heart license plate. Figured we’d just handle it and move on.
