Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
customer... just bought this boat last week; so I hope he got it dirt cheap. ...Apparently, it fired up for a few minutes before money was exchanged... seller disclosed that on[e] exhaust manifold had a crack, apparently claimed that was why it had water in the oil....
- both exhaust manifolds are cracked
- both check valve flappers in the exhaust are gone
- cooling water pump impeller disintegrated and rubber jammed up things
- one of the front motor mounts is slowly turning to rust
- both heads are cracked
...We failed it for this and ten other things and said good luck
1997 Ford Thunderbird. Apparently its “being restored”, came in for alignment after replacing a bunch of suspension.

67k and belt was still intact. Idler pulley disintegrated. Chevy Aveo of course
f350 dump ...came in for a wheel bearing noise

...Customer said it was grinding, but they didn’t know what. None of us had heard it pull in because they dropped it overnight.
My tech started pulling it into the shop and I ran out of the front office because holy shit it was loud.
What... are you trying to do?
