Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
He got the car last week, oil reminder light was on, I showed him how to reset it, but he wanted to add a little to be safe. I brought up a quart for him, he said he might as well buy the 5Q bottle so he has some extra.
He dumped the whole thing in, car wouldn’t start anymore and we ended up jacking the car up, trying to remove the drain plug which must have been chooched in by a gorilla with an impact so we took off the filter, pulled the fuel pump relay and had him crank it to drain some. There was oil dripping from the exhaust, and I honestly don’t know how it didn’t get hydro locked.
He bought the car last week with 268,000 miles and he still drove it home after all this.
Threw it up on the lift to get a better look at what we need to do. Looks like all new uprights, control arms, and wheels and it should be ok, amazingly enough...

The most recent word today is the dealership is not going to take this 2021 truck with 2k miles back but the customers insurance company will pay him out as a total loss and it will go to wholesale auction...

This truck was sitting out by the stables on a ranch I do a lot of work for. There are packrats there. I’ve seen nests on the disc golf course as big as a VW.

Ogres are... like Lincolns!
...Came off the truck with a check engine light on. Shift fork for the even gears would not return to its neutral position. GM wanted it back to tear it apart and check it out. Transmission is $17k.

...A customer actually brought these for us to dispose of. My manager kept them because they’re neat.

I’m the porter and the tip went to the mechanic!
