Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
Have already met the mouse in the Evaporator core... This smell was actually worse.

CR-V, 2019 I believe.
Tech found a piece of plastic blocking an oil passage that feeds 3-4. Been happening with the 1.5s, apparently there’s now a bulletin reminding techs not to open oil filters by sticking a finger in...

Zero heat. We squared off the flats with an air hammer chisel, then drove a smaller socket on and let the impact eat. Came right off and cleaned the threads

If you don’t see it immediatly, they helicoiled the balancer bolt threads. Which isn’t too bad of a thing in and of itself, helicoils will make the threads stronger than they were... if you install them right. But the genius building this motor fucked up the helicoil and skipped a thread.
Now sure you could just yank out the helicoil, and oversize the new one, but nobody here wants to so that and my boss made the call to just have them replace it. Unfortunately the new one doesn’t have an oil pan so we’re going to have to order a new one and have Jasper reimburse us.
Oh and for background it’s a 351 Windsor for a 1982 Ford F-150 getting a motor swap.

For this service we are doing oil change, brake fluid, serpentine belt, and pollen filter. Warranty time for that is 3.65 hours. Our annual service (oil change and brake fluid) are 4 hours, customer pay.
