So I unearthed a old Mopar block in my yard.
After further excavating. I unearthed a casting number.
And a casting date.
2899830 4-14-72
The whole bottom end is packed with gravel and I mean packed. This was after prying the rocks out.
From the casting code I think I have a 383. Neat! But from what I can tell Chrysler never made a 383 in 72 or very few at least.
After some wire wheel time on the data pad by the distributor, I could see it was stamped there but can’t get enough off of it.

I checked the bore as best I could, and it’s well over 4 inches so that would make it a 400.
Problem is that the casting number doesn’t come up in any research I’ve done on 400s.
I’m kinda stumped now. Anybody know any Mopar block experts?
I wonder what else is buried back here. It’s been a good bottle mine too.
