She said "Yes"!

Not to marriage, of course, 'cause we're already married. I have the go-ahead to look at buying a 4x4 for overland and camping adventures starting in 2015!

So now I'm going to have to pick something, and buy it. I've set myself a reasonable budget - $10000 - to cover the following:

  • Purchase of a 4x4
  • Proper wheels & tires
  • Insurance for one year
  • Safety and recovery gear
  • Basic modifications necessary to get started (e.g. skid plates, if they're missing)
  • Costs related to any special events (entry fees, etc); I'm probably going to head across the border for a few events with Vermont Overland http://www.vermontoverland.com/

This sounds like a pretty good budget, but remember that here in Quebecistan, car prices are higher (in Canadian dollars, no less) and I need to have winter-rated tires as well as summer off-road tires. And this must be a family-friendly vehicle that can pull a decent-sized tent trailer.

I have a number of ideas, which I'll be sharing here over the next couple of weeks, but if you have any suggestions, I'll be glad to have them.

I'M SO EXCITED!
