I sold the Titan. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it, it was great. But it wasn’t being used. At the beginning of the summer we moved from Virginia to Pensacola and life has been pretty busy since then. My BMW R1150GS Adventure is typically my daily commute mobile and in Florida it should be pretty easy to do it year round. Given our new location and plans, we were unlikely to use the Titan for much. It essentially was the back up commute vehicle.

We may not be here for more than 2 years so we are going to hold off buying a new vehicle until we get to our new location. Depending on where we go, it will guide what we get. Instead of daydreaming about what I’m going to do to, or with, the Titan, I now daydream about what I may get in the future.
Watching the most current season of Longmire I was, once again, reminded of how much I loved the Bronco when I was in high school. It was one of my dream cars. The Bronco is interesting because a ton were made, but it isn’t a commonly seen expedition vehicle discussed here or other places. A mid-90s Bronco can be had fairly cheap ($5-8k in decent condition) and parts are readily available. For that you may get a running and moderately reliable vehicle. However, before any serious trip it would probably be a good idea to go through it with a fine tooth comb.

Depending on how crazy one wants to go, you can end up having close to $20,000 invested for a well sorted Bronco, especially if you hire out the work. For that money you are very close to a late 2000s 4Runner or GX470.
At least with the Bronco you can get into it cheaper and likely get some use before putting any serious money into it. At that point you can decide to upgrade it or just sell and start with a different vehicle. I’m not sure which way I would go, but it is fun to think about.
In the meantime we run with my wife’s Subaru Impreza that is augmented with a hitch carrier. We will likely add a roof cargo box before our next trip as we were jammed pretty full on a recent family hunting trip.
